January Meeting Highlights

Thanks to everyone who attending our January general meeting. We welcomed a nonprofit spotlight featuring Marlett Garcia from the El Paso Center for Hope for Human Trafficking Prevention Month. We also presented a financial literacy workshop with State Farm Agent Paul Rosales. Again, thank you to everyone who attended this meeting. We hope to see you at the next one!

Latinas in Progress

Our team is excited to kick-off our Latinas in Progress education program on January 23 from 10am-2pm at the El Paso Main Library (501 N. Oregon). We are recruiting female teens who are interested in participating in this engaging college-prep opportunity. Girls will meet one Saturday a month starting in January for leadership, college readiness workshops, and community service projects. Applications are being accepted. Please share this opportunity with area girls. We are also recruiting volunteers to serve as mentors for our group of young leaders. Happy New Year

Happy New Years Hermanas! Thanks to all our team for a fantastic year in 2015. Together, we've been able to make tremendous strides towards our local goal of enriching the mind, body and spirit. Here are highlights of a few of our accomplishments from last year.

ENRICHING THE MIND:
SPEAKERS & PRESENTATIONS
Our team hosted professional development workshops and speakers on the following topics:
-Hispanic Heritage Latina Power Panel
-Racial justice training
 -Presentation on cultural studies & Latino educational opportunities
-Annual strategic planning retreat

NETWORKING & COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Our team participated in the following networking opportunities and developed partnerships with:
-Participated in the Wise Latina Summit
-Joined in the Women's Collective Impact Coalition
-Hosted a holiday posada -Sent a delegate to the HWNT State Conference
-Hosted meetings with HWNT state officers and leaders
-Recognized a Tejana Estrella
-Participated in community events: Butterfly Effect Mother's Day Celebration & VDay 1 Billion Rising anti-violence rally

ENRICHING THE BODY:
-We hosted a laughter yoga workshop

ENRICHING THE SPIRIT:
SERVICE & VOLUNTEERISM
Our team completed theses service and volunteer projects to make an impact in our community:
-Sponsored a $500 college scholarship
-Volunteered at Viva la Mujer festival, Maestro Cares Foundation, building the Kaboom playground
-Provided career panelists and guest speakers for the Chica Power Fest and the Inspiring Our Daughters Workshop
-Donated over 50 canned food items to sponsor Thanksgiving at La Posada
-Collected100 winter wear donations for Dame la Mano
-Gathered toiletry donations for Villa Maria homeless shelter & book donations for Tu Libro
-Hosted a quince dress drive for the Quince Project
-Hosted an information session with Make a Wish

Our team is dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life through education, personal and professional development. Together, we can advance the educational, cultural, social, legal and economic well-being of the women in our community.
