February & March News

Mark your calendar for these upcoming events:

SERVICE PROJECT: 
Join us in bringing awareness of violence against women at the 1 Billion Rising VDay Celebration on February 13 from 10am-3pm at Cafe Mayapan (2000 Texas Ave.). Volunteers are needed to host an information booth for HWNT and to help guide guest in an interactive storytelling session. To celebration Women's Day on March 5, we will be hosting a booth at the Downtown Artist Market Women's Day Celebration from 9am to 1pm on Anthony street. Volunteers can help distribute informational materials about HWNT and lead artistic activities inspired by famous female artists.

MARCH MEETING: 
Come to our March general membership meeting on March 2 at 6:30pm. Our meeting with feature a session on de-stress and self-care.

Latinas in Progress College Day

WHAT: The Latinas in Progress College Day is a college prep workshop and UTEP field trip centered around college attainment. The event will feature college readiness workshops, a college student panel and keynote speakers presenting on the value of academic pursuit.

WHO: The event is co-hosted by HWNT, Latinitas, and the UTEP Center for Civic Engagement.

WHEN: February 13 from 10am-2pm

WHERE: UTEP Miner Village (2401 N Oregon)

WHY: Young Latinas are suffering the highest rates of school drop out of all their female peers and College Day is a direct effort to curb those statistics by demystifying the college experience. Girls are invited to discover the importance of college and get an insider’s view of college life. Girls will have an opportunity to tour the UTEP campus, meet college student mentors, attend workshops on the importance of education and participate in activities to start preparing for college.

February Meeting Highlights

Thank you to everyone who came out for our February general meeting. Our team was honored to learn more about our local PBS Station thanks to our guest speaker Emily Martin-Loya, KCOS General Manager.


Thank you to the KCOS team for the tour and outstanding presentation. KCOS-TV inspires, informs and educates our viewers through quality educational programming; while producing superb local programs tailored to our community. Since 1978, the non-profit station is community owned and operated. It provides viewers high quality programming including 12 hours of enlightening kid shows on weekdays.
