This event is a community collaboration hosted In partnership with Save the Children, a global leader in disaster preparation and relief, and Youth Service America. The emergency preparedness fair will be held at the Main Public Library (501 N.Oregon) on September 11 to engage youth in helping their communities be prepared for disasters. As a part of this event, we need volunteers to assist with set-up, decorating, leading fun games and activities aimed at raising awareness of emergency and disaster preparation, giving away prizes and breaking down.
WHAT: This community service event aims to help build community awareness and educate children and families about simple things they can do to stay safe in emergencies. Through fun and educational games and activities, this fair will help families prepare for or mitigate disasters.
WHERE: Main Public Library (501 N.Oregon)
WHEN: September 11th from 12pm to 3pm
WHO: The We Stand Strong local committee is led by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and Latinas in Progress in collaboration with national partners from Save the Children and Youth Service America. This event is free and open to the public. Families and children are welcome to join us for fun and free interactive educational games and activities.
In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law. Honoring this moment in our nation’s history by serving in your community pays tribute to those who lost their lives in 2001 and to those who rose in service as a result of that tragedy. The We Stand Strong local committee collaborates with national partners from Save the Children and Youth Service America to rally the community together for a fun event that educates children and families about emergency preparedness. This fun fair will feature games covering the basics of getting ready for disasters, including 1) Recognizing Risks, 2) Planning Ahead, 3) Gathering Wise Supplies, and 4) What to Do During a Disaster.
