Personal & Professional Development


HWNT seeks to promote the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life through education, personal and professional development. Throughout the year, we focus on empowering women through a series of presentations and programs focused on personal and professional development.


INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP PANEL: 
Our members strive to celebrate the positive image and values of the Hispanic culture. HWNT Members Sara Aragon, Alicia Rascon and Julianne Flores participated in the Hispanic Heritage session of the Inclusive Leadership Panel at the University of Texas at El Paso on September 13. The Inclusive Leadership Panel Series is a monthly program dedicated to celebrating diverse leaders from UTEP and the El Paso community.


HWNT ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE: 
HWNT's Conference is an annual event focused on providing professional development and networking for professional women and college students at all levels of their career. A team of our members along with our recent scholarship winner attended the conference in Austin, TX. This two and half-day seminar gave our members the opportunity to meet and visit with women from all over the State of Texas.

STRONG ZUMBA CLASS:
Thanks to ISlay Fitness and Nutrition for hosting our HWNT team for a Strong Zumba class!! Our HWNT members received fitness tips from Coach Miriam during our HWNT August meeting. Coach Miriam Campos was born and raised in El Paso. She started her career in sales and business in the insurance industry after graduating from UTEP. She then opened an Herbalife Nutrition club which has now been operating for 2 years on the Eastside of El Paso. 
 
WELLNESS WORKSHOP:  Special thanks to nurse and coach Jennifer L. Armendariz for serving as a guest speaker for our July meeting on the topic of wellness. She has been a nurse practitioner for 9 years and worked at Texas Oncology for the last 5 years. She has two kids, Sofia and Ethan. She shared her love for fitness and health with our members.

Fall 2018 HWNT Noticias


COLORING FOR IMMIGRANT KIDS:

To support immigrant children being detained at local immigration detention centers, HWNT hosted a series a donation drives. Thank you to all our members who helped donate coloring books and crayons for local immigrant children.


WINTER WEAR DRIVE FOR IMMIGRANTS: 

To assist local emergency shelters that served to house immigrant families traveling through El Paso, HWNT members collected  donations of items to keep immigrants warm. Donations of gloves, socks, blankets, jackets, hats, and scarves were collected and donated to Annunciation Home and Loretto Academy. 


BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: 

Our HWNT team is proud to support the local students with a school supply drive. Throughout August & September, our HWNT team hosting a supply drive to gather needed materials. Thanks to our members for donating to our Latinas in Progress high school graduates. Congrats grads!!


FRIDA PAINTING PARTY: 

Our HWNT team was excited to celebrate the legendary artist Frida
Kahlo with our Frida-inspired art class on September 19 at the El Paso Brewing Co. We invited the community to come paint for a cause! All proceeds from the class supported our college scholarship fund. A huge THANK YOU to the talented B.E. Art for hosting our art class.



SISTERHOOD EVENTS: 

Our members bonded at our sisterhood events. In October, our members came together for a family-friendly bowling mixer. In November, our members gathered over a holiday feast and collected canned food donations at our Friendsgiving celebration.


HWNT State Conference: 

Our HWNT El Paso Chapter traveled to Austin, TX to attend the 2019 HWNT State Conference and celebrate "El Poder de la Mujer." The conference providing networking opportunities and featured inspiring speakers from throughout Texas. Our HWNT team was thrilled to honor Sara Aragon with the award as our "Estrella de Tejas."

Summer Noticias


LATINAS IN PROGRESS:
Our HWNT team hosted a Latinas in Progress College Prep workshop for middle school & high school girls on June 23. Local girls participated in our free college readiness activities, met current college leaders and got helpful tips to have a head start in college prep at our workshop at Clardy Fox Library.

HONORING OUR ABUELITAS:
Every month we plan a community service event. During May, we decided to celebrate our Abuelitas in honor of Día de Las Madres. These lovely Abuelitas are in need of non perishable items for their food pantry and garden supplies to grow their garden. We gathered community donations and sponsored a meal for the abuelitas. We also led a painting project and planted flowers with the elderly women. 


COLLEGE SHOWER: 
Our HWNT team is proud to support our college bound Latinas in Progress. Our HWNT team hosted a College Care Package drive to gather needed supplies for our Latinas in Progress high school graduates. We are collected school supplies and college materials to prepare our graduates for college. We filled baskets to prepare our members to attend the university in the fall. We were excited to help them on their journey to college. Thanks to our members for donating to our Latinas in Progress high school graduates. Congrats grads!!


SELENA PAINTING PARTY:
Our HWNT team was excited to celebrate the birthday of the Queen of Tejano Music with our Selena-inspired art class on April 26 at the El Paso Brewing Co.  The community was invited to paint for a cause and honor the legendary Selena. A huge THANK YOU to the talented B.E. Art for hosting our Selena-inspired art class. Our team had a fantastic time honoring the memory of the iconic Selena & learning to paint. Best of all - we raised funds for scholarships.



SPRING EGG HUNT: 
Thanks to our HWNT members for volunteering their time to organize a Spring celebration with the kids at La Posada Home.  Our members brought snacks for the kids, donated candy and eggs for a hunt, and guided kids through Spring arts & crafts.

Spring HWNT Noticias

CREATING A NEW YEAR VISION: 
Our HWNT members kicked-off the new year with an inspirational presentation by Aurora Anaya-Dyer on the topic of creating a vision. Members developed personal vision boards to create a envision their plans for the new year and create a visual representation of their goals.

DE MUJER A MUJER:
To support women in need, HWNT hosted the "De Mujer a Mujer" (From a Woman to Woman) blessing bag collection. Members donated a purse with goodies inside, including a card to help local women's shelters. Goodies included snacks, deodorants, female hygiene products, chapstick and toiletries.

SALSA DANCING: 
Our members learned how to get active and healthy with salsa. Thanks to Shundo Ballroom Dance Studio for hosting us and demonstrating salsa, tango and ballroom dance steps!

INSPIRING COLLEGE LEADERS:
Our HWNT team participated in the UTEP Leadership Innovation Vision Engagement conference by hosting a workshop and participating in a leadership booth fair. HWNT board members presented an interactive breakout session on the importance of civic engagement. Our HWNT team also hosted an interactive booth sharing involvement opportunities. HWNT members also had an opportunity to listen to the keynote presentation from the legendary social justice activist Dolores Huerta.
